The iconic brand Volkswagen has its own unique and interesting history of formation.
Now Volkswagen, whose name very well reflects the specifics of the company's activities (“Volkswagen” translates as “People's Car”), is the leader in the automotive industry in Europe. Perhaps, among all European brands, there is hardly another one as famous and iconic as the Volkswagen brand. Volkswagen can also boast that their cars have become not just a cult, but are now a real legend. After all, even those who are not very versed in various brands of cars cannot help but recognize the completely unique Beetle model that has become a classic, or the Golf model, which is only slightly inferior in popularity to the previous model. And the Volkswagen type 2 bus was highly appreciated by the "flower children", which has since become a real symbol of the hippie movement.
True, in the history of Volkswagen, not everything was smooth. First of all, the association with Nazi Germany hit the brand image very hard. Because of this, Volkswagen was not very popular in the global car market, which, accordingly, affected the sales of branded cars.
The first significant breakthrough of Volkswagen into the classics of the world automotive industry was just the cult Beetle model, which, by the way, was developed by the American advertising agency Doyle Dayne Bernbach (in 1959). This model went beyond the old classic Volkswagen design. But the very first Volkswagen car was developed, by the way, by Ferdinand Porsche himself, and the company adhered to this particular design when creating subsequent branded cars. "Beetle" not only characteristically changed the image of Volkswagen, but in general made a revolution in the idea of all mankind about cars.
Surprisingly, the ugly and strangely cute "Beetle" is very fond of the inhabitants of the United States, where this model has become a real bestseller. And America, as she always loves to do, glorified the car to the whole world, thanks to which Volkswagen reached the world level of fame.
By the way, now "Beetle" is considered one of the standards of a perfect car, such as, for example, the standard of a bottle of Coca-Cola, or the standard of a tough man - Harley Davidson.
Volkswagen, of course, began to develop, so that soon even outbid the cult auto brand Audi.
However, despite such a phenomenal success of the Beetle, in 1974 Volkswagen was on the verge of bankruptcy. And here once again Volkswagen shows miracles of reincarnation. They create a model that doesn't look like a Beetle at all. This model also has a very specific name - "Rabbit". However, it was not Rabbit that regained Volkswagen its lost positions in the global car market, but its more advanced counterpart, the Golf model.
"Golf" was another breakthrough in the car market, once again revolutionizing the prevailing opinion of people about cars. This model also proved to be impressive and memorable, and Volkswagen was once again recognized as the best loved people's car in the world.
Now, perhaps, it will be difficult to find a brand of car that could successfully oppose itself to "Beetle" or "Golf". That is why these models (improved, but still immediately recognizable) are still popular all over the world today, and not just in Germany or Europe. And if we really talk about people's brands of cars, then no other automaker can fit into this category as clearly as Volkswagen did. That is why for a long time on our roads ugly, but charming "Beetle" and simple stylish "Golf" will drive around. With such standards of perfection and, by the way, proven German quality, the Volkswagen brand also stands out for the uniqueness of its branded products.
