IBM. Famous iconic brand
If it were not for IBM, it is not known what computers would be today, and indeed all computer technologies. After all, this company has been an innovator in the computer technology market for a very long time (about a hundred years). IBM has so many inventions that they are leaders in the number of patented inventions. And the brand itself is on the heels of such monsters as Coca-Cola and Microsoft in terms of price.
The name IBM is short for International Business Machines, given to the company by Thomas Watson.
It all started with machines that processed data from punched card tables. These machines were needed by the United States in order to keep records of the population during the wave of immigration caused by the technological revolution.
Since then, IBM has been moving quite actively in the market of rapidly developing computer technologies. And all because Watson never spared money for scientific development. And in general, he did a lot to ensure that the employees of the company felt like a kind of chosen society. Watson introduced corporate attire, rewarded work well done, pioneered welfare packages, introduced corporate field trips, and even promoted a branded sports team.
But back to IBM products. It was IBM who first introduced the electric typewriter to the world. They also created the first real computer (together with scientists from Harvard University) - a calculator. And again, it was IBM who first created a computer that could store the results of various calculations. And they also invented one of the famous computer languages - Fortran.
And further, further. IBM electronic computers have proven themselves so highly that they have been used in the Olympics, in the world's first electronic ticket booking system, in the US military defense and even for space flights.
It was IBM who were the first to create computers on integrated circuits, computers of the so-called "third generation", they were also the first to develop the operating system. And again, IBM created the first floppy disks - the data storage standard of its time (now, however, floppy disks have already sunk into the past).
And it was IBM - and this may be the most important innovative solution of IBM - that was the first to create a personal computer (before that, no one created computers for individuals). The invention of the PC was a significant and turning point in the entire history of computer technology.
And finally, it was the IBM computer - Deep Blue that was able to beat a person in chess for the first time, and not just an ordinary person, but the world chess champion - Garry Kasparov.
So IBM was not only on the wave of computer technology, but we can say they were the creators of this new wave.
Now, however, numerous competitors are actively fighting for their place under the sun, and IBM no longer looks like such a giant.
However, whatever future awaits us, the IBM brand will remain in the history of mankind and in the history of computer technology forever. However, IBM is still on the wave and is quite capable of creating something that will turn the whole world upside down again and then again the IBM brand will leave all other brands far behind.
Well, let's wait and see.
