Cosmopolitan. Famous iconic brand

The history of the Cosmopolitan brand is quite interesting. In addition, it is likely that we are witnessing the decline of this iconic brand.

So why has Cosmopolitan become a cult brand?

Cosmopolitan. Iconic brand

Initially, Cosmopolitan magazine was the most ordinary magazine, publishing articles for the whole family and even fiction. Perhaps this magazine would have remained in obscurity if one day it had not gone to a certain Helen Gurley Brown, who became its editor in 1965. About who Helen Brown is, her sensational book “Sex and the Unmarried Girl” at that moment can tell.

Sitting in the editorial chair, Brown changes the direction of the magazine. Now the magazine is based on such a terribly interesting topic as sex, and the focus is “female orgasm”.

Now you won’t surprise anyone with the above phenomena of intimate life, but in those distant times, when the feminism movement was just growing, when women began to demand their own freedoms and rushed into those areas where men had previously ruled, in those glorious times when they suddenly started talking about sex not only in a whisper, but loudly, at the top of their voice, even in print media and on TV screens ...

And it is precisely at the dawn of the sexual revolution (evolution) that a new Cosmopolitan suddenly appears. Women of all ages began to buy Cosmopolitan magazine, as a real woman among all magazines. The new Cosmopolitan sold out 350,000 copies on the first day, so nearly half a million copies had to be reprinted, even though it disappeared from the shelves in two days.

So, literally in an instant, from an unknown dying publication, Cosmopolitan turned into the most popular magazine. First in the USA, and then all over the world (as many as 50 publishing houses of the world republish Cosmopolitan magazine). Even more - Cosmopolitan has become the benchmark for a special kind of magazines - the so-called "glossy magazines".

So the brand Cosmopolitan suddenly became a cult.

True, today, despite the still high demand of Cosmopolitan magazine, the brand's fame is slowly fading away. After all, for many years the magazine has not changed, but life has changed a lot now. Moreover, attempts by Cosmopolitan to occupy other niches also did not always justify themselves (except that the Cosmo Girl edition was successful). So “gloss” is gradually losing ground, giving way to new trends, and if Cosmopolitan does not come up with something original, then soon this iconic brand will be left in the past. However, this will not happen tomorrow or even the day after tomorrow, so there is still time for Cosmopolitan to change and regain its former glory and success.
